Thelesperma
Thelesperma es un género formado por 15 especies de América del norte y del sur (Crawford et al. 2009). Se encuentra representado por una única especie en Uruguay, Thelesperma megapotamicum, restringida al litoral oeste del país.
Hierbas perennes, tallos erectos, ramificados apicalmente, cilíndricos, estriados, glabros
a estrigosos. Hojas opuestas, pseudopecioladas, a veces ciliadas por el margen en la
parte basal; láminas deltoides, pinnatisectas, ocasionalmente no divididas y lineares,
base atenuada, glabras en ambas caras, uninervadas, coriáceas, concoloras; segmentos
lineares, simples, los basales pinnatisectos, ápice agudo, margen algo revoluto, entero.
Capítulos homógamos, solitarios, sobre largos pedúnculos. Brácteas presentes o
ausentes, angostamente oblongas a lineares, base truncada, ápice agudo. Brácteas del
calículo ovadas u oblongas a angostamente oblongas, ápice agudo u obtuso, glabras,
uninervadas, margen entero involucros cilíndricos, filarias dispuestas en 1 serie; filarias
ovadas a angostamente ovadas, ápice obtuso a redondeado, glabras salvo por el ápice
ciliado en la cara abaxial, sin nervios evidentes, cartáceas, margen membranoso, entero.
Receptáculos planos a levemente convexos, foveolados; páleas ovadas, elípticas u
obovadas a angostamente obovadas, membranáceas, base por lo general atenuada, ápice
agudo o redondeado, margen membranoso, eroso, glabras. Flores perfectas, fértiles;
corolas tubulosas amarillas o anaranjadas, abruptamente ensanchadas, a veces también
levemente ensanchadas a la base, glabras, lóbulos 5, angostamente oblongos, ápice agudo,
glabros; apéndice conectival ovado, ápice agudo; estilos con ramas estilares angostamente
oblongas, ápice filiforme, apéndice estéril con tricomas colectores en el lado abaxial.
Aquenios fértiles cilíndricos, levemente comprimidos dorsiventralmente, glabros. Papus
formado por aristas retrorsamente barbeladas, estramíneas.
